A SharePoint site collection is a hierarchical set of sites that can be managed together. It contains a single top level site and any number of subsites.
The Site Collection screen provides you with an overview about all the SharePoint site collections you have created for your domain. Here you are able create, edit and remove your site collections. Through myMamut you are able to create as many site collections as your total storage allows you to.
The lower part of the screen lists all the site collections of your domain. You are able to see the protocol used, the URL of the site collection, the template applied, the quota and the administrator of the site collection.
The upper part of the screen allows you to create new site collections. All site collections need to have an administrator. The administrator must be a myMamut user. In case you want to set as administrator a user that do not exist in myMamut, you are required to create it first and then assign access to the service.
How to create a new SharePoint site collection
Click Products in the top menu.
Select the domain through the radio buttons, in case you have more than one.
Click SharePoint to open the administration screen. Click Site Collections.
Enter the hostname for your SharePoint site collection in the corresponding field, for example, portal. If you plan to use a secure protocol (https) your hostname must be unique.
Select whether you want to use a secure
protocol (https) clicking the OFF
button, so it turns to ON. The
https, or hyper text transfer protocol secure, provides encrypted communication
and secure identification of a network web server. In case you use the
https protocol, your SharePoint will be stored
in a secure area of our servers. Therefore the address to your SharePoint will include sharepointarea.com
and not your domain name. The DNS record for SharePoint
will then not be visible in the DNS administration screen.
Tip! If you have used a https protocol and want your SharePoint collection to show your domain name
in the address bar, you can create a forwarding
through the Forwarding
screen.
Select the template
you would like to apply in the corresponding drop-down list. Click on
Preview to check how the template
looks and to get additional information about the template. The preview
will open in a new window.
Note! You are only able to apply a template to a site collection
once.
Select the language
for your SharePoint in the corresponding
drop-down list.
Note! You are only able to apply a language
to a site collection once.
Assign a quota of your storage place to the site collection. 100 MB is suggested. The quota represent the space you are able to use to store sites, documents, etc. on your site collection.
Select the administrator
from the corresponding drop-down list. The list will show all the registered
users in myMamut.
The first name,
surname,
e-mail/username and the display
name will be automatically suggested once you select a user.
Create a password and re-enter it in the corresponding field. The password must be at least 6 characters, and must include at least one upper case letter, one lower case letter, and one numeric digit. This is the password that you will need to log into SharePoint.
Click Add.
The SharePoint account has now been created.
Removing SharePoint site collections
If you want to remove a SharePoint site collection, you are able to do it through the Site Collection screen. Note that when removing your SharePoint, all the content will be lost. That is why it is recommendable to take a backup.
In case you need to free up storage space, you need to empty the bin in SharePoint. You are required to log into SharePoint in order to do it.
Tip! You are able to Edit site collection by selecting it in the list and then clicking on the corresponding link.
