User Administration

Through the User Administration screen you are able to manage the users of Windows Web Server. You are able to create an unlimited amount of users with different access rights. Below you will find a description of the different options you are able to apply when creating or administering your users.

Username/Password: All users are required to have a username and a password. The username will automatically be prefixed with ’web_’, as in web_example@yourdomain.com. Your password must contain at least 6 characters and must include one upper case letter, one lower case letter, and one numeric digit.

IIS Manager path: The check boxes under the IIS Manager path allow you to provide different access options to the different users through the IIS Manager for Remote Administration. If the user intends to administrate the site, you can select the check box for Site. If you only want to provide access to a part of the site or to a specific application, you can do so by only selecting the check box for the corresponding application. If no check boxes are selected, the user will not have access.

Note! If a user has Site access, the user needs to use the option Connect to a site... in the IIS Manager for Remote Administration. If a user is given access to one application, the option Connect to an application... needs to be used in order to be able to connect.

WebDAV: WebDAV or World Wide Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning is a standard for authoring content on the Internet. Many applications, as well as operating systems, have built in WebDAV support. You are able to connect directly to the site using a WebDAV supporting application saving a document directly to the site and with an instant result. Another possibility is to map a network drive to add the site as a drive on your local computer, editing a document here will have the same result, but you are not dependent on an application with WebDAV support. WebDAV access applies to the whole site and therefore cannot be limited to a specific folder.

You are able to enable three different access options to WebDAV: read, write or source. The Read access allows users to view directories or file content and properties. Note that the read access needs to be enabled when activating the Write and/or Source options. Without Read access, the user will not be able to use the other access options as expected. The Write access allows users to change directory or file content and properties. The Source (script source) access allows users to access source files. If the read access is enabled, then the source can be read, and if the write access is enabled, then the source can be edited. Note that a user with Source access might have access to sensitive information such as usernames and passwords. The functionality of your website might also be changed.

Note! If the administrator does not enable the WebDAV in the Server configuration screen, users with WebDAV access will not be able to connect or reach content on the server.

FTP: FTP or File Transfer Protocol is a standard network protocol used to transfer files from one host to another. There are two different FTP access options: write or read. The Read access allows users to view and download directories or specific files. The Write access allows users to upload and edit directories or file content.

FTP path: This field allows you to limit a FTP user access to a specific folder. Click on the field and in the window that opens you are able to select which folders and subfolders the user should have access to.

Note! If the administrator does not enable the FTP in the Server configuration screen, users with FTP access will not be able to connect to the server and upload/download content.

Actions: Click the button Add in order to create a new user. Click Edit in order to introduce changes in one of the existing users and then click Save. You can also click Remove if you wish to delete a user.
